Students will practice finding the volume and surface area of rectangular prisms, triangular prisms, trapezoidal prisms, cylinders, square pyramids, triangular pyramids, cones, spheres, and hemispheres with this cut and paste puzzle. A pentagonal prism is also included with the base area given. Many questions are challenging and will require the Pythagorean Theorem in order to find a side length. This activity was created for a high school level geometry class.
Students find the volume and surface area of each figure, then cut out the squares and rearrange so the edges meet and paste onto a template. A template to paste the solution and answer key included. The box letters make it easy for students to organize their work AND make it easier to grade!
I recommend having students work in partners and divide up the work. This way, each student will complete 8 volume and 8 surface area questions. I purposely mixed up the problems to ensure there was an even amount of practice.
