Using diagram markings and given information, students will practice determining whether triangles are congruent using Side-Side-Side (SSS), Side-Angle-Side (SAS), Angle-Side-Angle (ASA), Angle-Angle-Side (AAS), or Hypotenuse-Leg (HL) with this cut-and-paste activity.

Simply give each student the diagram sheet and template. This Congruent Triangles (SSS, SAS, ASA, AAS, and HL) Cut & Paste Activity is a cut and paste activity in which students practice identifying congruent triangles. Students cut out the 18 diagrams, determine whether the triangles are congruent, identify the postulate or theorem that proves congruence, and determine the correct congruence statement. They then paste each diagram in the correct location on the template using the row and column headings.

Because students must correctly match both the congruence method and congruence statement, there is only one correct solution to the activity. Each diagram is numbered, making completed student work quick and easy to check.

Excellent resource! Students get lots of practice with triangle congruence theorems and writing congruence statements. The self-checking aspect makes it easy for me to check it or have the students do it themselves. I have noticed that these activities tend to take my students longer than I expect. I would allot 30-40 minutes for this assignment, allow them to work in small groups, or have a couple of them filled in for students that need more scaffolding.

My students were very engaged with this activity. I let them work in small groups, and I heard a lot of great discussions. I like how they needed to have a certain number of pairs of triangles that belonged to each column because it allowed them to analyze their mistakes at the end if they ended up with the wrong number.
