Students will learn how to classify and identify numbers in the Real Number System with this 21-slide Smart Board presentation that includes guided notes as well. The presentation is organized as follows:
Slide 1: Why Do We Classify Numbers in Math? The bullets are whited out. So just take your eraser to reveal each one. The kids love it and think it’s magic 🙂
Slide 2: How do we classify in other subject areas? This was a slide to just get them thinking about classifying.
Slides 3-4: Notes on The Real Number System. The notes and answer key are provided with the lesson when you download.
Slide 5: An interactive activity where the students drag the numbers to the correct spot on the board. It will bounce back if they put it in the wrong place.
Slides 6-10: True/False questions related to The Real Number System. I give the students each a red and green card and they hold them up whether they agree or disagree with the statements.
Slides 11-20: Questions in which the students click on all the sets to which the number belongs. The boxes turn red once they select them.
Slide 21: Any Questions?
This lesson worked really well because we kept switching up the activity. In total, it takes roughly 50 minutes.
