Students will practice factoring polynomials with this set of Mystery Number Activities. This set contains versions 1-10 and is most appropriate for an Algebra 1 level class.
Students completely factor the polynomials in each row. If done correctly, there is a common binomial factor in each row. They record this common binomial, then use the common binomials to create a mystery expression that will reveal a mystery number at the end.
• Version 1: Trinomials (ax² + bx + c where a = 1)

• Version 3: Trinomials (ax² + bx + c where a > 1)
• Version 4: Trinomials (ax² + bx + c where a > 1) *includes GCF
• Version 5: Difference of Squares and Trinomials (ax² + bx + c where a = 1)
*includes GCF
• Version 6: Difference of Squares and Trinomials (ax² + bx + c where a > 1)
*includes GCF
• Version 7: Polynomials with Four Terms
• Version 8: Polynomials with Four Terms

BONUS: A TEMPLATE (in PowerPoint) is included in this purchase if you’d like to create more versions.
This also works very well as a partner activity! One partner completes the first column, and the other partner completes the second column. They can compare answers to identify the common binomials.
Versions 11-15 (for Algebra 2) can be found here.
