Directions for card sort: Print and cut out cards (I typically make 10 sets and put my students in groups of 3). Students work to sort the cards (there are 27 total) by the property represented on the card. A recording sheet is included for them to write down which cards were which property.

I used this as a review of properties before a test. I put the properties around the room and handed each student a card as they came in. They had to tape the card with the associated property. As a class we discussed which were correct and moved them around accordingly. Great warm-up and practice!

Loved using this as a way to have my students take notes in a more creative way (turned it into a station for each property). Then I had my students use the sort as a way to check their understanding from the notes. Thanks so much for this wonderful resource!

The product was perfect! I usually like to create my own classroom resources, but was short on time when prepping for this lesson. This was a thorough start to finish lesson. It started with notes and I was able to write all the examples across the front board so it was displayed throughout the class. Then I grouped students in pairs to complete the card sort. There was a great deal of fantastic productive struggle during this. Please note that she created the product so that students can't just look for parenthesis and assume it's the associative or distributive property. She was very creative with her examples and it really makes the students think. At the end of the lesson the students walked away with the notes we took together and all the examples from the card sort. Wonderful product! I couldn't be happier.
