Students will review and practice writing equations of conic sections (circles, ellipses, hyperbolas, and parabolas) with this set of 32 task cards. Cards are organized as follows:
• Cards 1-8: Writing Equations of Circles given a graph, center/radius, center/point on circle, two endpoints of a diameter
• Cards 9-16: Writing Equations of Ellipses given a graph, vertices/covertices, vertices/foci, covertices/foci
• Cards 17-24: Writing Equations of Hyperbolas given a graph, vertices/covertices, vertices/foci, covertices/foci
• Cards 15-32: Writing Equations of Parabolas given a graph, vertex/focus, vertex/directrix, focus/directrix
Break the cards up and use them as you teach the conics, or use as a cumulative review at the end of a unit.
Students can check their answers by scanning the QR code on each card. Connection to the internet is not required to scan the code, however, a QR scanner app is required on the device. There are several free apps available to download. Cards without QR codes also included should you wish not to use them.
