Students will practice graphing and identifying characteristics of polynomial functions with this Mystery Code Activity. Characteristics include domain, range, relative maximum(s) and minimum(s), end behavior, increasing and decreasing interval(s), and zero(s), and multiplicity (tangent versus intersecting).
Students will need to graph 8 polynomial functions to complete this activity. Two graphs will require students to approximate the relative maximum and minimum. There are two versions included: one with the polynomial functions expanded and one with them written in factored form. Choose the version that works best for your students.
Characteristics of the functions are described on the Mystery Code sheet. Students choose the function that matches the description. Once they identify all the characteristics, there are directions at the bottom of the page to reveal the code. They can check this code with you.
