Students will practice adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing integers with this cut and paste puzzle. Students find each sum, difference, product, and quotient, then cut the squares out and arrange them on the template so they match with the corresponding answers. It’s a great review activity! I used it as a first day of school activity for my Algebra students to see what they were capable of without a calculator. However, it could also be used as reinforcement with grades 6-8 math.
BONUS! This resource also contains Cornell Notes to review integer operations prior to completing the puzzle. Note- I teach a “number line” method to integer operations in that to subtract you move left and to add you move right. When given a problem like “-3 – (-5)”, I teach my students to rewrite as “-3 + 5” and move 5 units to the right on the number line. The same thing for adding a negative, they change to subtraction and move left on the number line. My notes reflect this method.
