Students will practice factoring polynomials by working through these 32 task cards. The cards are organized as follows:

• Cards 1-6: Factoring a GCF
• Cards 7-12: Factoring a Difference of Squares
• Cards 13-20: Factoring a Trinomial where a = 1
• Cards 21-28: Factoring a Trinomial where a > 1
• Cards 29-32: Factoring Polynomials with Four Terms (by Grouping)

Greatest common factor is reinforced throughout several cards.

These cards were designed for an Algebra 1 level class. For a more advanced version with sum of cubes, difference of cubes, and more complex polynomials, check out my Algebra 2 Factoring Task Cards.

A recording worksheet is included for students to show work. They can check their answers by scanning the QR code on each card. Connection to the internet is not required to scan the code. However, a QR scanner app is required on the device. There are several free apps available to download.

I included a non-QR code version as well if the technology is not available in your classroom.

Great review of all methods of factoring! I placed the cards on all my desks and had students move around the room to factor the different polynomials. They enjoyed the movement and it was a great way to prepare for our upcoming test on factoring!

—NICOLE G.

So helpful for students who need extra help outside of school. This is engaging and has problems the vary to help learn the factoring.

—TERESA H.

We used this activity to help review for a unit assessment. There were plenty of questions and I looked that they were of varying degrees of difficulty. My students were engaged with their groups all period trying to complete as many as possible.
