Students will practice finding missing side lengths in special right triangles, including both 45°-45°-90° and 30°-60°-90° triangles, with this coloring activity. There are 12 problems total. For each problem, they find the two missing sides. This will match the numbers with the colors in order to color the shooting star. There are two versions included, simplest radical form and decimal approximations.

Special Right Triangles is a hard concept for my students to grasp, and I appreciate having this extra practice for them. Plus, it's fun and relaxing to color, and it breaks up the monotony of just doing problems.

My students really enjoyed this activity. It's a change from regular homework assignments and they get to color! I was amazed at how different some of their finished work looked, due to using different shades of the colors and coloring styles. This assignment is a little challenging for students who are colorblind, however. I overcame that by just telling them to read the colors on the pencils or crayons. It worked out well.
