This resource includes guided notes with practice problems on solving quadratic equations using the Quadratic Formula and a Tic-Tac-Toe partner activity.  This includes both rational and irrational solutions. For the activity, students work in pairs to practice solving quadratic equations using the quadratic formula. There are two versions of the activity- one with solutions given in decimal form and the other with solutions in simplest radical form.

Activity Directions:

I pair the students up and have them choose to be X or O. I give out one board per pair and have them take out their own piece of paper as well. They each choose one problem to solve on their paper. They look for their answer on the board and put an X or O in the corner. Then, they choose two new problems and so on. They win if they get 4 in a row, column, or diagonal. So it’s kind of a mix between Tic-Tac-Toe and Connect 4.

My students enjoyed this one! It definitely kept them engaged.

I used this to introduce the quadratic formula to my sophomores. It's a very thorough compilation of different types of problems that use the quadratic formula. Very well done!

Students love games and competition so this made working not so bad! and they could win candy! Great resource!

I just took over long term subbing in a class and was looking for some partner activities. The students were very quiet in the courses I took over and this got them talking! It was so joyous to hear chatter and math vocabulary being used. I also really liked that they needed to find the rounded answer in some situations, this allowed the students the ability to practice doing that and they could check to see if the answers they found were correct. The self-check was amazing!
