Students will practice solving quadratic equations by both factoring and quadratic formula methods with this partner activity. Partner A will solve the first equation by factoring while Partner B solves the same equation by the quadratic formula. If their answers match they move on, if not, they swap papers and help to identify and correct any errors. Each partner will do 10 problems (5 by factoring and 5 by the quadratic formula). This works very well because it gets students talking about math and helping each other improve their skills.

This is INCREDIBLE. I loved the way that the students worked with each other but did the math two different ways - it gave them opportunities to check their answer, yet they couldn't rely on their partner to do the work for them, so everyone was accountable for pulling their own weight. It allowed me to reinforce both methods without isolating them.

—SARAH S.

Loved this activity where students had to flip back and forth between both methods. For my absent students, I designated an A or B sheet and filled in what the "partner" should have gotten for their side of the worksheet for the absent student to check their work.

—ASHTON H.

This was a great activity to not only review factoring and quadratic equation, but also reinforced that both methods answer the same method. The quadratic expressions used were a good mix. Students were forced to pay attention to detail when they got answers that were close, but not quite the same, as what their partners got. I will definitely use this again next year!

—MARIA R.
