Students will practice finding side lengths and angle measures in right triangles using trigonometric ratios with this “Gone Fishin” PowerPoint game. The fish really do swim in this animated game, which the students LOVE! The types of problems are as follows:
Red Fish: Identifying sine, cosine, and tangent ratios.
*Pythagorean Theorem required on some problems.
Yellow Fish: Finding a side length using trig ratios.
Green Fish: Finding an angle measure using trig ratios.
Blue Fish: Applications (Angle of Elevation and Angle of Depression)
Students are divided into two teams. Students can either aim for the fish with a Koosh Ball (if playing with a Smart Board), or come up to the computer to select a fish. Once a fish is selected, an problem will appear. All students solve the problem on their recording worksheet. Call on a student from the team that threw to answer it and if they answer correctly, they get a point. If they answer incorrectly, the other team has an opportunity to earn the point. The fish disappear as they are selected so there will be no repeats. There are 44 total problems, with 11 of each kind.PowerPoint is required for this game! It will not work with Google Slides or any other program. The game can be played with a Smart Board (or other interactive whiteboard) in which students can aim for a fish with a Koosh ball. Or, you can play the game with a projector and just have students come up to the computer to click on a fish.
