Students will practice solving radical equations with this Scavenger Hunt activity. This includes Radical = Number, Radical = Radical, Radical = Variable, and Radical = Binomial types of problems. Students must isolate the radical on a few problems, be able to solve both linear and quadratic equations, and check for extraneous solutions. Only square root problems are included with no higher indexes.
This scavenger hunt includes 12 problems and a student recording worksheet. Hang the problems around the room (or in the hallway) and distribute the recording worksheet to each student. Clipboards work very well for this type of activity! Place your students in groups of 2-3 and assign each group a place to start. They solve the problem at the station, then use their answer to lead them to the next problem. They should finish the Scavenger Hunt at the same problem they started with.
