Students will practice both order of operations and evaluating expressions with this Scavenger Hunt activity.  They are more difficult problems that are meant for an Algebra level class. The order of operations problems have absolute value within them.

This scavenger hunt includes 12 problems and a student recording worksheet.  Hang the problems around the room (or in the hallway) and distribute the recording worksheet to each student. Clipboards work very well for this type of activity! Place your students in groups of 2-3 and assign each group a place to start.  They solve the problem at the station, then use their answer to lead them to the next problem.  They should finish the Scavenger Hunt at the same problem they started with.

We used this as a review right before a quiz. Having them move around the room worked for MOST of my students, but there were a few who couldn't handle that kind of freedom and stay on task. For the majority of them, this was an EXCELLENT resource. Since it is self-checking, they were able to see very quickly if they had the correct answer and go back to correct their mistake or get assistance.

—JENNIFER E.

My students love walking the hallways looking for the next problem to solve. This resource fits the bill. Thanks so much for the active math lesson!
