Students will practice finding the area of basic plane figures (rectangles, triangles, trapezoids, and parallelograms) on the coordinate plane with this Scavenger Hunt activity. There are 12 problems total (2 rectangles, 3 parallelograms, 4 triangles, and 3 trapezoids). Seven of the problems require students to graph the figure first making this a great activity to review graphing on the coordinate plane as well. The Pythagorean Theorem is NOT required to find any of the dimensions in this activity.
Hang the problems around the room (or in the hallway) and distribute the recording worksheet (also included) to each student. Clipboards work very well for this type of activity! Place your students in groups of 2-3 and assign each group a place to start. They solve the problem at the station, then use their answer to lead them to the next problem. They should finish the Scavenger Hunt at the same problem they started with
