Students will practice solving quadratic equations by factoring with this “Find Someone Who” Activity.  This activity includes the following types of problems:

• Factoring a Greatest Common Factor (ax2 + bx = 0)
• Factoring a Difference of Squares (ax2 – c = 0)
• Factoring a Trinomial (ax2 + bx + c = 0), where a = 1
• Factoring a Trinomial (ax2 + bx + c = 0), where a > 1

I distribute the Find Someone Who Activity to each student and first tell students to put their name on the paper, because they will be trading papers with their classmates many times. Then, they choose any one problem to do on their own to start. Then, they get up and find 13 other people to trade papers to complete the remaining problems. They sign their name on the problems they did. I walk around with my own paper and trade with them as well and encourage students to try different problems each time. This gives me an opportunity to engage in math discussion with them individually.

Once all is completed, they sit back down in their groups and compare answers and make changes if necessary. Then, we go over the problems as a class.
