Students will practice solving proportions (including those that result in a simple one-step equation, a multi-step linear equation with variables on both sides, and a multi-step quadratic equation with variables on both sides) with this “Rolling Review” Dice Game activity.

There are three versions included with this resource:

• Version 1: Simple proportions that result in a one-step linear equation.
• Version 2: Proportions that result in a linear equation with variables on both sides.
• Version 3: Proportions that result in a quadratic equation with variables on both sides.

Students are paired up and assigned half of the board. They roll two dice to see which problems they are solving. For example, if they roll a 1 and a 6, then Partner A completes (6, 1) and Partner B completes (1, 6) on the board. Both students should get the same answer. If not, they trade papers to see if they can help identify any mistakes.

Partners switch roles rolling the dice and solving the problems until they have filled the entire board. I have students highlight the problems as they go so they know which ones they have already done.

love Rolling Review activities from All Things Algebra! They are such a great way to have the students working together but each doing their own problems so that they aren't just copying off each other. A really engaging way to review or practice concepts!

This was wonderful!!! My technology failed and I was in quite a bind... This totally save me! Also, my students enjoyed doing something 'different'. Thank you! :)

I love these rolling reviews. They are great practice that my students always find engaging. I usually don't make them do the entire sheet but give them a specific number of turns they should take. If they get different answers, I have them try each others problems and then compare work to see if they can find a mistake. It's a great way to build in collaboration and error analysis.
