Students will practice the following skills with this round table activity: (1) graphing points on a coordinate plane, (2) writing the equation of a line in slope-intercept form given a graph, and (3) identifying the correct standard form equation to a line given in slope-intercept form.
Students are placed into groups of three and each person is given a round table paper. There are six versions of the activity so this activity can be used twice! The directions for each person:
- Person #1 graphs the two given ordered pairs. They use a ruler to connect them and make a line.
- Person #2 verifies that Person #1 graphed correctly. Then, they identify the slope and y-intercept of the line and write in slope-intercept form.
- Person #3 verifies that Person #2 wrote the correct equation. Then, they choose the standard form equation (there are 4 given) that matches the slope-intercept equation. They prove it is the correct one by converting back to slope-intercept form.
Then it goes back to Person #1 and they verify that Person #3 choose the correct standard form equation.
