Students will practice simplifying, adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing radical expressions as rotate through 9 stations with this “Math Lib” Activity.
There are 9 stations, with 9 problems at each station. I hang the problems and the solutions card side by side at each station. You can cut the problem cards out if you wish but it is not necessary. As a group of 3-4, students choose one problem to solve at each station. Once solved, they look up their solution on the solutions card and record the information. The answer at each station will give them a piece to a story (who, doing what, with who, where, when, etc.). Each group will have a different story to share depending on the problem they chose at each station. This is unlike my classic Math Lib activities where there is just one answer. They get very excited to share their story and see which of their teachers is the “star” of the story!
This type of Math Lib is more difficult to grade than my classic one-story math libs, however, you can informally assess as you walk around the room and obverse your students. You’ll hear great math conversation going on and I encourage you to ask students to walk you through how to solve a problem!
Station Topics:
- Station A – Simplifying Radical Expressions
- Station B – Simplifying Radical Expressions (with variables)

Edit all story elements!
The stations solutions are given in a Microsoft Word document so you are able to change all story elements to personalize the story for your students.
