Students will practice simplifying, adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing complex numbers with this Scavenger Hunt activity. For division, students must be able to rationalize the denominator, which includes multiplying by the conjugate. This activity was written for an Algebra 2 level class.
This scavenger hunt includes 24 problems and a student recording worksheet. Hang the problems around the room (or in the hallway) and distribute the recording worksheet to each student. Clipboards work very well for this type of activity! Place your students in groups of 2-3 and assign each group a place to start. They solve the problem at the station, then use their answer to lead them to the next problem. They should finish the Scavenger Hunt at the same problem they started with.
