This Two-Step Equations and Inequalities Find Someone Who Activity gets students out of their seats while they practice solving two-step equations and inequalities. Students also graph the solutions to the inequalities, and some problems include a fraction where students need to multiply by the reciprocal. There are 16 problems in all, and students trade papers with their classmates to complete them.
I distribute the Find Someone Who Activity to each student and first tell them to put their name on the paper, because they will be trading papers with their classmates many times. Then, they choose any one problem to do on their own to start. Then, they get up and find 15 other people to trade papers with to complete the remaining problems. They sign their name on the problems they did. I walk around with my own paper and trade with them as well and encourage students to try different problems each time. This provides me with an opportunity to engage in math discussion with them individually.
Once all is completed, they sit back down in their groups and compare answers and make changes if necessary. Then, we go over the problems as a class.
