Students will practice graphing transformations, including reflections, translations, rotations, and dilations, with this coloring activity. There are 20 problems total, separated into two columns. I recommend using this a partner activity in which one partner completes Column 1 and the partner completes Column 2.
Students graph the pre-image and its image under a given transformation, then identify a certain point. Graph paper is provided for them to show their work in order to justify their answer. Once they have completed the 10 problems, they compare answers with their partner. There are matching answers between the columns which will indicate how to color the sun. For example, if #1 is (1,5) and light green is (1,5), then all 1’s are green on the sun.
- Reflections include the x-axis and y-axis.
- Rotations include 90º, 180º, and 270º (all counterclockwise) about the origin.
- All dilations use the origin as the center of dilation.
