Students will practice solving problems related to tangent lines and circles with this “Find Someone Who” Activity. This includes determining if a segment is tangent, and solving for segments lengths involving tangent lines. Knowledge of the Pythagorean Theorem, solving multi-step equations, and squaring binomials is required for these problems.
I distribute the Find Someone Who Activity to each student and first tell students to put their name on the paper, because they will be trading papers with their classmates many times. Then, they choose any one problem to do on their own to start. Then, they get up and find 11 other people to trade papers to complete the remaining problems. They sign their name on the problems they did. I walk around with my own paper and trade with them as well and encourage students to try different problems each time. This gives me an opportunity to engage in math discussion with them individually.
