Students will work together to practice solving radical equations, including problems that result in a quadratic equation with this relay race activity. There are four relays included, each with 4 problems. In groups of four, each student gets a relay. They all begin on problem #1 and solve the equation. Then, they rotate papers and substitute the answer from the previous problem into the next, then solve. This requires that they check over the work. They keep rotating until all relays are completed. I have found the relays to be incredibly beneficial in my classroom as they stress the importance of accuracy and not rushing through.
This also works great as independent work or warm-ups/exit tickets.
