Students will practice classifying, adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing polynomials with this “Gone Fishin” PowerPoint game. The fish really do swim in this animated game, which the students LOVE! The types of problems are as follows:
Red Fish: Classifying a Polynomial by Degree and Number of Terms
Yellow Fish: Adding and Subtracting Polynomials
Green Fish: Multiplying Polynomials
Blue Fish: Dividing a Polynomial by a Monomial
Students are divided into two teams. Students can either aim for the fish with a Koosh Ball (if playing with a Smart Board), or come up to the computer to select a fish. Once a fish is selected, it will advance to that slide. All students either classify or simplify the polynomial on their recording worksheet (provided with download). Call on a student from the team that threw to answer it and if they answer correctly, they get a point. There is an answer key for you to check! If they answer incorrectly, call on a student from the other team. The fish disappear as they are selected so there will be no repeats. There are 44 questions included this game (11 of each fish color).
PowerPoint is required for this game! It will not work with Google Slides or any other program. The game can be played with a Smart Board (or other interactive whiteboard) in which students can aim for a fish with a Koosh ball. Or, you can play the game with a projector and just have students come up to the computer to click on a fish.
