Students will practice solving systems of equations by graphing, substitution, and elimination with this “Rolling Review” Dice Game activity. There are three versions included with this resource:
Version 1: Solve by Graphing (Both Slope-Intercept and Standard Form)
Version 2: Solve by Substitution Method
Version 3: Solve by Elimination Method
Students are paired up and assigned half of the board. They roll two dice to see which problems they are solving. For example, if they roll a 1 and a 6, then Partner A does (6, 1) and Partner B does (1, 6) on the board. Both students should get the same answer. If not, they trade papers to see if they can help identify any mistakes. Special solutions (infinite and no solution) are included in all three versions.
I have my students show their work on a separate sheet of paper, but mark the board with their answers so they know which problems they have already done. They really enjoy this activity because it is different and amazes that that two different problems can have the exact same answer.
